About Dr. Bonilla

Dr. R. Maurice Bonilla was born in Colombia, South America. He is bilingual in Spanish and English. He is married and has three children.

As Medical Director of St Joseph Hospital’s Weight Management program for over twenty years, Dr. Bonilla has been a pioneer in the relatively new medical specialty of Bariatrics or Weight Management. As a practicing Internist, he has seen firsthand the ravages of obesity while treating diseases like diabetes, hypertension and heart disease. He has devoted his career to treating and preventing obesity. In his private practice and at the hospital, he has helped thousands of men and women to lose weight and keep it off.

Formerly Chief of Internal Medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital, as well as Secretary Treasurer of St. Joseph’s Hospital, he has been honored to be listed in "Guide to Top Doctors" and "Best Doctors in Florida."

Dr. Bonilla  specialized in Internal Medicine at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan for three years. He completed a one-year fellowship in Gastroenterology at Wayne County General Hospital in Westland, Michigan, affiliated with the University of Michigan.
